Adam hoped things wouldn't explode in either of their faces. He hoped, really really hoped that they could make this work.
He smiled when Ronan snagged his hand, holding on firmly but mindful not to hold on too tight. He waited patiently for Ronan to give him...whatever he was going to. His breath caught when he saw the keys. The other boy said he didn't have to move in, but the idea still made Adam feel some sort of way. With anyone else, it might have been a bad way, but things were always different with Ronan. It would be like spending the summer with him at the Barns.
If Adam could do that, he could- he wasn't sure. His need to be independent warred with his desire to have a home with Ronan. He didn't have to give up his dorm room if he moved in though, he could still have a place to go if everything went to hell. Or he could stay over sometimes, or-
Abruptly, he realized he was just staring at the keys. Reaching out to take them, he also took a breath.]
Thank you.
[Maybe that wasn't the right thing to say. Looking up to meet Ronan's eyes, he added-]
I'd like to stay, sometimes.
[He looked away, down at the keys again.]
I always feel more like myself around you.
[And not just because he didn't feel like he had to hide his Henrietta accent.]

That things could be like they had been at the Barns. Or at least that Ronan wanted things to be like they had been over the summer.]
I'd like it if you stayed sometimes.
[He said softly, meeting Adam's eyes for a moment, watching as his gaze shifted to the keys again. It wasn't too much, he didn't think. A lot, but not more than Adam could handle. And he can't help but smile when he says that he feels more like himself. He can't fight the urge to reach out, and it feels safe now, so he curls fingers against the side of Adam's face, presses in against him. He hadn't touched more than the sly brush of fingertips when Declan and Matthew had been here, helping with the boxes. But now they're headed back to DC, and Ronan's here with his boyfriend.
So there's no reason to avoid it now, and he can curl his other arm around Adam's waist and tuck his face into the side of his neck. Breathing him in, pressing his mouth to skin, brushes of contact that are almost kisses. He needs Adam, not that he'd ever say that out loud; not something that either of them really knew how to hold.]
Can you stay tonight? We can get take-out.

Sometimes, he thought about asking what Ronan saw in him but was worried the question would be too heavy. Maybe Ronan wouldn't know how to answer, or maybe Adam wouldn't like whatever he said. He had a lot of worries all the time, and did his best to mask them so no one else would know. He thought Ronan saw right through him most of the time, though.
He sighed softly, a content sound, at the feeling of Ronan's mouth on his skin. When he was asked if he could stay, he quickly ran through a mental list of everything he needed to do over the next few days. There were important things but nothing was really pressing or time-sensitive.]
I can stay. [He wanted to stay.] And I can chip in for food. [It was somewhere between an offer and a statement, like he wasn't sure if his money would be accepted. But also he would feel guilty not making the offer.]
