The Raven King Summary
The women of Fox Way discuss Gansey's fate and if anything can be done to save him, along with the problem of the darkness in the ley line, aka the third sleeper, aka the demon that Piper and Neeve awakened.
Adam and Gansey discuss Ronan (who's not at school, because of course he isn't), and what to do next in their hunt for Glendower. They conclude that (trying) to talk to Artemus, Blue's father, would be a good place to start.
Ronan goes home to the Barns and attempts to dream up a way to protect Gansey. Instead he brings Opal (at this point in time Orphan Girl) out of his dream instead, by accident.
Blue gets suspended from school and talks to Gwenllian about Noah being a ghost. Gansey, Adam, and Ronan show up with Opal to get Blue and take Opal to Cabeswater. While they're there, Aurora shows them a diseased tree, the first sign of Cabeswater's corruption. Cabeswater shows them a nightmare, three women with Blue's face.
Blue returns home and talks about Gansey and true love with her mother and the other women.
Piper contacts her father, Laumonier, who's part of a set of triplets and in the magical artifacts business. She attempts to work out a business deal with him, involving the awakened demon.
Ronan has a nightmare about his brothers, and calls Matthew to make sure he's okay. Adam struggles a little with his connection to Cabeswater, his hand moving on its own.
Raven Day comes around at Aglionby. Adam struggles some more with his Cabeswater connection, due to the demon starting to attack it and corrupt it. Gansey almost has a panic attack, but is pulled out of it by Henry Cheng, who invites him to a toga party.
Adam and Blue talk first about Cabeswater, then about Gansey, then about her and Gansey. Specifically that they're falling in love and sneaking around seeing each other. Adam is hurt that no one told him the truth, arguments ensue.
Maura and Mr. Gray drive around town while Maura attempts to find any leads about the current situation. Eventually, this leads them to the Greenmantle's rental home, where they encounter Noah, having a very bad day. She takes him back to Fox Way.
Gansey and Blue go to Henry's toga party and have a surprisingly good time.
Ronan goes to help Adam with Cabeswater. He's also falling in love with Adam. Adam tells him about all the weird stuff happening with Cabeswater lately. Weird stuff is happening with time, too. Watches are stuck on 6:21 or misread as 6:21.
On the way to trying to find 'the devil', Adam scrys (again), and talks to Persephone. He accidentally leads them to his old home where his parents live. He states that he wants to go get Opal.
Adam and Ronan go to Cabeswater, where everything is wrong, and they conclude it's the same kind of wrong as Ronan's dreams were. Adam also realizes that Ronan dreamed Cabeswater. Opal falls into a pool of acid and Ronan jumps in to save her. Adam saves both of them by utilizing his connection with Cabeswater to get them out of the pool.
Gansey and Blue leave the toga party after she tries to call home multiple times and receives no answer. There they discover Noah, possessed by the demon. He attacks Blue and injures her face.
Elsewhere, Piper has her husband killed, through the power of the demon. The favor she'd asked for from the demon originally had been to fix her body, since she'd been dying. Now, since she's the one who awakened the demon, she's the one it favors.
Adam and Ronan go to the hospital where Blue and Gansey are. They bring Opal with them. Gansey chooses this moment to tell them that he and Blue are seeing each other.
Declan receives a call from Seondeok, warning him that things are going to happen in Henrietta. Aka the selling of the demon approaches and buyers will be coming.
Gansey and Henry go to a quiet place on the school campus to talk about things like trust and friendship. Basically, they climb into a dark hole and Henry tells Gansey he'd been kidnapped before, and then puts the RoboBee in Gansey's hands. The RoboBee being a dream creation of Niall's.
Declan visits Ronan and they have a conversation about the buyers that are going to be coming to Henrietta, and Ronan's future, and what he's going to do with his life. Declan asks him to leave town with him, but Ronan refuses.
Declan is going to take Matthew with him to live in DC, so they have a going away celebration at the Barns. Ronan kisses Adam.
Ronan gives Declan the ORBMASTER, a dreamt object.
Piper contacts her father again, then kills Neeve.
Blue, Gansey, Adam, and Ronan discuss what to do about Cabeswater, Ronan tells them that he dreamt the forest. Adam and Gansey talk about Blue's curse. Adam tells him about Ronan kissing him. Gansey tells Adam not to break Ronan.
Mr Gray kidnaps/has a conversation with Henry. They meet up with Blue and Gansey at a grocery store to talk. Henry tells them about the upcoming sale of the magical entity (aka the demon). Laumonier shows up, Mr Gray buys the teenagers time to get out of the store.
Adam kisses Ronan.
Gwenllian attempts to have a 'conversation' with Artemus about the demon. Artemus hides inside the tree in the backyard.
Blue, Henry, and Gansey spend time with the Gansey family. Helen is angry about the deal Gansey made with the headmaster of Aglionby, Child. That is, Gansey gave him Monmouth in exchange for not expelling or failing Ronan.
At the Barns, Adam scrys while Ronan dreams. They discover his night horror dead. They also discover that Aurora has been killed. Maura and the Gray Man/Mr Gray arrive at the Barns. So does Laumonier, who the Gray Man shoots.
Ronan doesn't handle this (the death of his mother) well. Blue has an actual conversation with Artemus. He reveals that he's a tir e e’lintes, sort of like a tree spirit (which yes, makes Blue half). They also talk about the demon and it's creation.
Adam joins Ronan outside in his car outside of Fox Way. Gansey has a conversation with Gwenllian about Glendower. In the end, he commands the night to show him where the Raven King is. The night does, in the form of a stream of ravens.
Gansey immediately follows them. The others find out and start putting together a plan to figure out where he went.
Gansey's car breaks down. Henry arrives and lets him drive his car the rest of the way to where the ravens are going. The ravens lead them to Gansey's childhood home where he died from hornets seven years before.
Ronan dreams up an object to help them find Gansey.
Gansey and Henry discover a cave opening beneath the house. Gansey goes in alone, because of course he does. The others eventually catch up to give him a hand.
They find Glendower's tomb in the cave. Glendower is long dead. Gansey is devastated.
They drive to wake Glendower's bones, but nothing happens.
On the way back to Henrietta, the group stops to get some air and discuss what to do now that they don't have Glendower's favor, and what they can do to stop the demon (their only option right now is to make a sacrifice on the ley line). Adam, possessed by the demon, attacks first Ronan and then Blue before being restrained and blindfolded.
Piper attempts to sell the demon to a group of buyers, but they're edgy because the demon = bad news and it's pretty clear to everyone. Laumonier shoots and kills her.
On the way to Cabeswater, the group is stopped by the road flooding with blood. The demon, whose desire has always been to unmake the dreamt and then the dreamers, starts to unmake Ronan and Opal.
Adam is untied. Blue kisses Gansey. Gansey declares that his sacrifice is to kill the demon, and then he dies.
It's revealed that Noah, not Glendower, was the one who saved Gansey seven years ago when he was dying from hornets. Because sometimes time is a circle and works in weird ways, allowing Noah to give what's left of his spirit to save Gansey.
They take Gansey's body to Cabeswater and ask the forest to save him. Cabeswater obliges, giving its last energy to save Gansey and bring him back to life.
Adam visits his parents after graduation, trying to see if he can actually have a decent relationship with them. His mother asks that he call sometime.
Ronan gifts the other dreamed Pig, the one with no engine, to Blue as a graduation present.
Ronan finds a wheel in the forest that matches Gansey's car, but is centuries old, implying they still have adventures left ahead of them. Then he starts to dream of a new Cabeswater.
