Opal: A Raven Cycle Story Summary
Following the events of The Raven King, it's told from Opal's point of view.
Opal grows more accustomed to being out of dreams and away from Cabeswater. Adam spends most of the summer at the Barns. The ladies from 300 Fox Way visit, where they tell Adam he's still a psychic despite Cabeswater having died.
Opal and Ronan talk about him dreaming a new Cabeswater, and Opal rejects the idea (Cabeswater at its end when it was corrupt and dying frightened her). Ronan and Adam talk about it anyway. Ronan's been having trouble with it because he wants it to be just right.
Opal watches them kiss a lot. Like, a lot. The little creeper.
She rummages in the woods a lot, sneaking over to where the woods border a gas station and watching the people there. She gets caught and sulks about it, Ronan tells her the new Cabeswater will be a place where she won't be so bored all of the time.
While Ronan and Adam were out one day, a woman visits the Barns and breaks in. She snoops through Ronan's things while Opal watches, hidden. Opal stops the woman from breaking into the long barn (where Ronan keeps all of his dream things) by causing a stampede of dream animals and real animals on the farm, forcing the woman to her car. Before the woman leaves, she sees Opal. Opal never tells anyone about this incident.
Opal returns to roaming the forest, returning to the gas station for a while but eventually grows bored there. So she finds a bench by a creek instead, and watches the people there. One woman catches her interest and she goes back day after day to watch her.
Adam walks to the Barns from work. He talks to Ronan about the colleges he's applied to and how he didn't get into the one he wanted the most.
Summer comes and goes. Adam plays with Opal, it's revealed that the woman Opal enjoys watching is sick. Ronan spends less time dreaming and more time working on repairing things around the Barns.
Opal is upset that Adam will be leaving for college soon and buries all the dishes from the kitchen in one of the fields.
She breaks into the long barn where she's not allowed and plays with Ronan's dream things.
Adam finds her eventually, and they talk about his going away, and he tells her that he'll be back. She shows him where the dishes are buried.
At the creek, Opal discovers that the woman she watches has died. Opal cries and screams.
When she returns to the Barns, she discovers Ronan oozing black, what will eventually come to be known as nightwash, what happens to a dreamer when they stop dreaming. Before they figure this out though, Adam insists he's not going if it doesn't stop. Ronan insists that yes, yes he is, and starts cleaning out his car since Adam's isn't working right.
Opal keeps insisting that Ronan dream, but no one listens to her at first. Ronan hasn't dreamed since he couldn't get the new Cabeswater as perfect as he wanted it, which has caused all of this. Opal explains it to them, and they finally listen.
Adam tells Ronan to dream him a fix for his car, and then dream up the new Cabeswater, as good as Ronan can make it.
Opal makes peace with the idea of living in a new Cabeswater.
